Famosa Beer Released from GKS Beer Portfolio

IRVINE, CA – July 2012 – – G.K. Skaggs Inc. has reached an agreement with Cerveceria Centro Americano and Central Beer of Miami Florida, for the purchase of the import and distribution rights to Famosa Beer of Guatemala. The deal was concluded earlier this year and goes into effect August 31st 2012. Gregory Skaggs, President of G.K. Skaggs, Inc. noted “…G.K. Skaggs Inc. agreed to sell the rights earlier this year. Both companies remain on good terms and CCA will continue to brew private label products for our company.” This will allow G.K. Skaggs, Inc. to pursue other strategic growth opportunities.” The details of the deal were not disclosed.

G.K. Skaggs, Inc. distributed Famosa Beer for the past 8-years and was both instrumental and successful in growing distribution and sales volumes over this period. Currently the brand is sold in 35 states and in all major markets. It has been growing at double digit rates over the last 3-years. The Famosa brand (known as Gallo in Guatemala) has been brewed and bottled continuously since 1896 by Cerveceria Centro Americano. Mr. Juan Monge, President of Central Beer noted, “We have enjoyed our partnership with G.K. Skaggs, Inc. over the years and we were pleased to conclude this deal which is mutually beneficial for both sides. It allows our company, much like G.K. Skaggs, Inc., to pursue other opportunities within the marketplace.”

In a related news release, G.K. Skaggs, Inc. announced and confirmed that it had signed an import/distribution agreement with San Miguel Corp. which brews beer in the Philippines and has nine breweries throughout Southeast Asia. Kirin Brewery of Japan owns a 49% stake in the San Miguel brewing operations.
